Hello World!

Hi- my name is Kate. As a kid, I traveled extensively with my family on a 32′ sailboat named Fionn MacCool through Mexico and Central America. When I was 13, I was transplanted from my water-based environment to Tumbleweed, Idaho. Or at least that’s what I expected it to be. Turned out, I was wrong- the roads are paved, there are a multitude of stoplights and tumbleweeds don’t hold the town hostage. Still, Idaho is land locked and there really wasn’t anything I could do about that.

I quickly fell into young adult life and checked off most of the typical milestones (prom, learning to drive, high school graduation, getting a job, moving out, college…). It didn’t take long for me to forget about boat life completely. Enter my wonderful Hubbie, a native Idahoan, lover of football (Go Pack Go!), video games, camping and hanging with the guys. Shortly after we married, we decided to leave Idaho for a new adventure and we settled in Eugene, Oregon.

Most important for this story, however, he is a landlubber. A little over two years ago, my parents bought a boat with the intention of retiring and moving aboard to explore the San Juans. It took all of one night on board to wake the boat-life bug. I went home and shared with Hubbie that I wanted to fit living on a boat into our lives. Now, something I should mention- I love to chase shiny objects and usually have several grand ideas in the works. So Hubbie’s response that “this would pass” was not completely off base. But oh how wrong he was.
